More efficient technology

E.ON España is betting on combined cycle plants, since they are more environmentally friendly. Combined cycle technology allows yields of up to nearly 60% to be achieved (compared to yields of some 35% for conventional thermal plants) and uses natural gas as a fuel, thereby considerably reducing atmospheric emissions of pollutants and greenhouse gases.

THE ESCATRÓN PLANT

The Escatrón combined cycle plant is located in the municipal district of Escatrón, which is 70 kilometers southwest of Zaragoza, along the Ebro River. The plant uses natural gas as a fuel, which contributes to the protection of the environment. It has an installed capacity of 800 MW.

THE TARRAGONA PLANT

The Tarragona combined cycle plant uses natural gas as a fuel, which contributes to protecting the environment. It has an installed capacity of 386 MW.

THE BAHIA DE ALGECIRAS PLANT

Conversion works are currently underway for two of the fuel-gas groups at the Bahia de Algeciras thermal plant to convert them into an 800 MW capacity combined cycle plant. The Bahia de Algeciras plant is located at the Puente Mayorga industrial area in the San Roque municipal district in Campo de Gibraltar (Cadiz province).

This conversion project will allow the continuity of electric generation activity in the San Roque Municipality under more respectful conditions toward the environment, since by using combined cycle technology that allows returns of up to almost 60% to be reached (compared to returns closer to 35% reached by conventional thermal plants) and natural gas as a fuel, it considerably reduces the emission of greenhouse gas contaminants into the atmosphere.

THE SOLVAY PLANT

The Solvay combined cycle plant, a combined heat plant using natural gas as a fuel and with steam supply to the Solvay factory, is still in the licensing phase. When realized, it will be located nearby Torrelavega, in the northern province of Cantabría.
