Signing of the 2008-2009 Rural Electrification Agreement between the Cantabria Government and E.ON España

It is endowed with 4 million euro, and the cost of the work will be financed jointly by the electric company and the Cantabria Government.

The Cantabria Government’s Rural Development, Livestock Breeding, Fishing and Biodiversity Commissioner, Jesús Oria, and E.ON Distribución S.L. Network Manager, Ignacio Casuso, have signed an agreement to execute the Rural Electrification Plan during the two-year period of 2008-2009. This Plan calls for EUR 4,000,000, which will be jointly financed at 50% each by the Cantabria Government and E.ON España.

The Electrification Plan is aimed at the comprehensive improvement of service in rural areas through the execution of various works that focus on guaranteeing continual supply, thus decreasing service outage times due to breakdowns. Also of priority interest are actions to improve the visual and aesthetic impact of electric lines and other elements, especially in unique areas considered to be the region’s artistic heritage.

Once the initial stages of rural electrification, which focused on the improvement of electric infrastructure, were completed in previous years the service quality improvement stage was begun, emphasizing the work for distribution network linkage in 12 KV, which will allow for more than one supply alternative. In addition, old networks will be replaced with ones that are more modern and suitable for current technical systems and standards. The Rural Development, Livestock Breeding, Fishing and Biodiversity Commissioner’s Office has a Strategic Plan for determining the target intervention areas, in which the actions to be carried out will be prioritized after the pertinent studies are done.

This new agreement entails a continuation of the cooperation between E.ON España and the Cantabria Government, which has been developing without interruption since 1982 as proof of the commitment of both institutions to the improvement of the quality of service in the distribution network in Cantabria.
